Item Description

Some of the most iconic Garnet specimens from the East Coast of the United States are the historic Almandines from the famous Roxbury area in Connecticut. These specimens are over 100 years old, as mining was finished circa 1902, and only see them in old collections and museums. This piece is a great representative specimen of this beautiful material featuring many sharp, well-formed, dark reddish-black colored dodecahedral crystals of Almandine measuring up to 1.2 cm in typical grey schist matrix. If you look closely, you can see a few dark brown colored prismatic crystals of Staurolite mixed in as well. If you collect Garnets, old East Coast classics or if you're a fan of historic localities, don't miss out on this wonderful 120+ year old specimen.
