Item Description

Sharp high quality floater almandine garnet crystals are RARE from the numerous quarries in this old New York pegmatite mining area. This sharp, highly lustrous thumbnail is a dramatic dodecahedron beveled with trapezohedral faces. The crystal looks black to very dark wine-red in normal light, but beautiful areas of cherry-red translucence are visible under bright light. Complete all-around, essentially pristine, with only trivial edge wear and contacting. Undoubtedly an old-timer, but no proof. Formerly in the Taldino Testone Collection. Ex Chet Lemanski Collection and acquired from Dick Hauck in 1991. A rare fine New York almandine and a must for the species or locality collector.
