Item Description

Fluorescent white Alstonite, a rare Ba-Ca-carbonate, preferentially covers one-half of this impressive large translucent 360-degree compound "ball" of gray-green witherite crystals. Striking dense stepped-growth clusters of elongated pseudo-hexagonal witherite dipyramids comprise the impressive diverging clusters. Witherite from Illinois sets the standard for the species, certainly for US specimens. This outstanding, display-worthy small cabinet has very fine form and is pristine. The intergrown diverging witherite clusters viewed from the top are especially noteworthy. Ex Ted Bartels Collection, formerly in the Ross Lillie Collection and recovered in November, 1995. A exceptional association specimen. Value?
