Item Description

This specimen was labeled simply as coming from Teller County, Colorado, which isn't terribly specific considering the countless spots throughout the county where Amazonite has been found. For reference, the catalogue collection states that this specimen was purchased in July of 1985, so it's not from any contemporary mining. With that said, it's still a very attractive display specimen with fine color and NO repairs. The crystals are sharp and well-formed with that classic blue-green hue associated with this material, and they are accented by off-white colored crystals of Albite growing along the side of the prism faces. The termination of the specimen is undamaged, and shows the best / most saturated color. From the collection of Chester ("Chet") S. Lemanski Jr. of Browns Mills, New Jersey (https://www.mindat.org/user-461.html). Collection #2734. Chet was born 1947 in started collecting minerals circa 1957. He worked briefly as a drill runner at the famous Sterling Mine, in Ogdensburg, New Jersey and from 1987 to 1990 he helped convert the mine into a public access mining museum. He has held the role of treasurer, vice president and president of the Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society (FOMS), and has been a board member and vice president of the Franklin Mineral Museum. The rare copper arsenate, Lemanskiite was named in his honor in 1999.
