Amethyst (Cactus Quartz)

Item Description

A nice representative specimen of the well-known "Cactus Quartz" or "Spirit Quartz" from South Africa. This specimen hosts several lustrous translucent lilac crystals of Amethyst with small drusy overgrowths along the prism giving them that iconic prickly "cactus" appearance. The terminations of each crystal are smooth and lustrous with none of the overgrowths. If you backlight the piece, you can see some warm golden hues (most likely from iron content). It should be noted that Boekenhoutshoek is the actual locality for this material which were erroneously marketed at first as being from the Magaliesberg Range. From a prominent Midwest collection that we acquired a few months ago.
