Item Description

Most people don't associated Bolivia with these kind of specimens, and although the Bombori Amethysts could appear somewhat basic to a novice collector, they're actually rare due to the fact that they feature crystallized Calcite - which is practically impossible to find in any Bolivian locality. This association along with the fact that you often see Amethyst crystals with eye-catching scepter and 'reverse' scepter habit crystals make them attractive and desirable for what they are. Here we have a nice miniature specimen with many fine quality, highly lustrous, very sharp, gemmy, very soft purple colored hexagonal prisms of Amethyst, some of which show scepter habit growth. Looking closely I can see a couple of the crystals are actually doubly-terminated, which is not common for the locale. The largest Amethyst measures 1.1 cm long, and as I mentioned, they are sitting atop a layer of translucent, modified, white/colorless, rhombohedra of Calcite with a bit of green underlain 'Chlorite' on matrix. Although Calcite is a common species, the Calcites from Bombori are the best crystals of the species from anywhere in Bolivia. The quality is very good on this piece, and it was difficult to photograph, but looks great in person. You can't get any more of these specimens as the locality is finished, so if you like Quartz, Bolivian minerals, or are just interested in owning a piece of rarely seen crystallized Calcite from Bolivia, pick this one up.
