Annabergite - very rich, early 1900s specimen

The famous and ancient mines of Lavrion, which were the source of wealth for ancient Athens, has produced many great minerals over the centuries, Annabergite among them. Annabergite is an uncommon hydrated Ni-arsenate, known and appreciated for its stunning green color. It is also the nickel analogue of Erythrite, which explains the instanly recognizable fan-shapped habit of these unusual, gemmy crystals. The 3 cm pocket is completely filled with Annabergite, and immediately catches your eye and your interest. This comes with an old A. Berger label (Vienna), indicating this fine small cabinet piece was out of the C. Prager collection of Celle, Saxony. This is a MAJOR example of the species with extraordinary richness, comparable to anything recently for sale as other old collections have turned up. We valued this at $1000-1250. It is SUPERB for what it is and much richer than modern era specimens sold off at much higher prices not too long ago. was recently deaccessed from the extensive collection of Bob Reynolds, who cherished both minerals and fossils as he collected. Bob is a prolific author and has had several curating positions in museums.
