Item Description

Antlerite is a rare copper sulfate species Antlerite and some of the most well-known specimens are those from the famous Chuquicamata Mine in Chile. Antlerite was named in 1889 in honor of the Antler Mine in Arizona, the type locality for the species. Fibrous examples, like this piece can often be confused with Brochantite, but the Chuquicamata specimens are iconic and fairly easy to identify. This piece features somewhat horizontal seam of semi-chatoyant, acicular intense emerald green crystals Antlerite in between altered porphyritic matrix. The brilliance of the crystals is best seen in strong light, as they glisten and glow when viewed up close. If you collect rarities, this is a good example of these famous specimens from this historic (and now defunct) locality.
