Item Description

Apatite is found in a wide range of colors, and is one of the most well-known gem quality phosphates in the world. Some of the best yellow Apatite gems come from the locality at Cerro de Mercado. Here we have a classic, hard to find "checkerboard step cushion" cut, soft yellow color gem from this classic locale. These stones are not nearly as common on the market as they were about 25 years ago, and are certainly some of the most distinctive Apatites from any locality in the world. Typically the crystals that yield these stones have "tube"-like inclusions and just don't allow for clean stones above 0.50 carats, but this one just over 2.00 carats. It would make a worthwhile addition to a worldwide gem collection, a collection of Mexican stones, or a suite of Apatites. Overall, a very good quality example of this renowned Mexican material.
