Apatite (rare bi-color gem)

Item Description

This is a beautiful and rarely seen, rich saturated green bi-colored Apatite from Madagascar. These gems came from a small discovery in the late 1990s. The gem features a combination of yellow and blue colors, but they were oriented together to create the green shade, so technically it's a blue and yellow bi-colored gem. When you look at the stone in the light, you can see there is almost a bit of pleochroism, as the color changes ever so slightly when the stone is rotated on a different axis. I see flashes of yellow, green and blue depending upon the temperature of the light source and the angle at which it's viewed. It has a "Brilliant Oval" cut with nearly eye-clean clarity. A beautiful Apatite with a color combination that is not typically seen in the material.
