Item Description

The famous Cornwall Iron Mines in southeastern Pennsylvania date back to 1732, but haven't operated in decades. Specimens from these open pit localities are varied and seldom seen on the market today. Cornwall specimens range from copper minerals such as Azurite and Malachite, to zeolites like Stilbite and Natrolite, to iron silicates like Andradite and Actinolite. Some of the most iconic East Coast Apophyllite specimens are those from Cornwall, and this piece is a great example of said material. This showy small cabinet specimen features an attractive cluster of sharp, lustrous, somewhat thick, tabular crystals of white Apophyllite (likely Hydroxyapophyllite-(K)) forming a "rosette"-esque shaped group associated with small trapezohedral crystals of white Analcime on host rock matrix. The largest Apophyllite crystal measures 2.7 cm at its widest dimension.
