Item Description

A cool old association specimen from the La Farola Mine featuring beautiful lustrous, almost wet-looking, electric deep emerald green colored crystals of Atacamite along with olive green colored, velvety flattened "sprays" of Libethenite on matrix. I can see some tiny blue-green colored "balls" of Pseudomalachite on top of the Libethenite as well for nice touch. For reference, the La Farola Mine is the type locality for Atacamite. This is an older specimen and you don't see too many like this on the market today. The largest Atacamite measures 4 mm long. A great, colorful "old time" specimen of this beloved copper hydroxyhalide. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
