Item Description

Augite is a common pyroxene species, but good crystallized specimens from Franklin and Sterling Hill are certainly rare by comparison. This impressive cabinet display specimen is one of the best Augites we've ever had to offer from this area and features dozens of thick, sharp, well-formed, prismatic, dark chocolate-brown crystals measuring up to 4.2 cm with no matrix. This impressive group stands on its own without the aid of a base or clay. Most of the crystals are in excellent condition, as they are fully-terminated and display beautiful smooth prismatic and pyramidal faces. This one truly looks better in person, as I feel it has more depth and character that is not easily captured in a photo. A fantastic piece for any Franklin collector, highly valued for its size, quality and rarity on the market. The piece is accompanied by a label from noted Franklin mineral dealers Ewald and Helen Gerstmann, and is specifically labeled as coming from Sterling Hill.
