Azurite

Item Description

Excellent and impressive for its size, this single Azurite is from the famous locality of Touissit. The Azurite is of the very deepest blue, the luster is high, and, as you can see, the spearpoint habit is most attractive. The striations enhance the aesthetics, and the reentrant on one side provides even more mineralogical and visual interest. It is typical for soft Azurites to have some chipping, but the one real concoidal fracture here actually blends into this very large crystal, so it doesn't detract at all. The small amount of dissolution provides a very appealing texture to the Azurite as these narrow, sharp valleys wind their way around the crystal. In combination, everything adds up to quite a fine, and especially thick, Azurite from Touissit. Mostly complete all around as seen in the photos, this is likely from the original finds at this locality in the very early 1980's. This was recently deaccessed from the extensive collection of Bob Reynolds, who cherished both minerals and fossils as he collected. Bob is a prolific author and has had several curating positions in museums.
