Item Description
The extinct Apex Mine primarily produced gallium and germanium ore, but also produced some fine azurite and malachite specimens, such as this rich specimen (MINDAT). Royal-blue nubby azurite botryoids line a striking large two-sided vug and numerous other seams on the sculptural matrix. Veins and pods of contrasting malachite are a typical accessory on the starkly contrasting brecciated matrix. Undoubtedly older material, at least 40 years old, but no proof. Ex Charles Noll Collection # 5294, a prominent Wisconsin collector, who passed away in 2014. Utah azurites from the Apex Mine of this richness and quality are seldom on the market.
