Item Description

A RARE and EXCELLENT locality specimen from the famous Khandivali Quarry near Bombay, India. The cluster of sharp, triclinic blades of black Babingtonite, up to 8 mm, sits like a flower in the middle of the associated minerals. The luster is very good, as is the form. These are associted with green, translucent Prehnite and small, tan spheres of Gyrolite. All on a bed of small, gemmy Quartz crystals. Babingtonite is an UNCOMMON silicate from the Bombay area quarries and this is a very fine example from there or anywhere. The Bombay area quarries are closed, due to population growth. This super, 1970s piece was formerly in the world-famous collection of John Barlow. Better in person and a rare item to see.
