Item Description

Classic and excellent 'rock candy' blocky barite crystals from the famous aptly named Rock Candy Mine of British Columbia. The aesthetic sculptural small cabinet plate is covered with pretty golden-yellow tabular crystals, to 2.3 cm on edge. Some of the crystals are color-zoned, glassy, water-clear gemmy, while others are translucent with a secondary frosted overgrowth layer. The back of this solid barite crust is composed of smaller crystals of lighter color. This well-known extinct fluorite mine is noted for green fluorite and the fine barite specimens. See the 1981 Mineralogical Record article on the locale in Vol. 12, No. 2. Specimens of this quality were probably collected in the late 1970s or earlier. A classic Canadian species.
