Baryte on Quartz (classic German locale)

Item Description

This is a rich and superb cabinet Baryte from the well known German locality of Pohla in Saxony, Germany (more well known as a silver mine and producing fabulous silver specimens as well). There are dozens of gorgeous, gemmy to translucent amber crystals with exceptional luster that cover the entire display face of this gorgeous piece! The Barytes range in size from 1 to 3 cm in length and all of them display relatively steep, chisel-point terminations and many of them are double-ended. The majority of them are completely gemmy and some of the tight, parallel clusters have a translucent center with gemmy tips. It is in excellent condition even at the periphery with only minor edge rubbing and chipping. They are uniformly super sharp, super lustrous, and very bright and glassy. This is a very high quality for this now closed locality. These were mined and stashed in Soviet days and came to market only when the Berlin Wall fell. They are nestled on a matrix of lightly banded Chalcedony with tiny, lightly iron-stained drusy Quartz crystals on the bottom of the piece. These are difficult to obtain today at this level of quality. Sparkling, big, showy.
