Item Description

A wonderful historic matrix display specimen of the classic Beryls from the Case Quarries near Portland, Connecticut, which date back to the 1930s. This piece features a sharp, well-formed, soft blue colored hexagonal prism of Beryl measuring 3.3 cm long sitting on a matrix of chalk-white Microcline with minor grey Smoky Quartz. The termination on Beryl is actually fairly well-formed and it appears that the crystal is actually doubly-terminated, as the little basal termination on the bottom shows what look like tiny crystallized faces when reflected in the light. It's hard to find fine sharp crystals from this locality, and it's even harder to find showy matrix specimens like this, so if you collect gem crystals, pegmatite minerals, specimens from New England or just worldwide Beryls, don't miss out on this beauty. From the collection of Gerry Morvell, with an accompanying label from the collection of Bill Clark.
