Beryl var. Morganite - rare CA locale

Item Description

A rare and fine complete crystal of pink Morganite from this small mine better known for Aquamarines and other associated minerals. The crystal, gemmy on the exterior with a frosted core, measures a full 5 cm across and has a pleasant pink color. The luster is good, and the form on the presentation side, with well-defined faces, is sharp. The reverse side is contacted, as expected. A good Morganite from the Elizabeth R. Mine is difficult to find, particularly with such good 3-dimensionality. Photo does not do it justice so be sure to see the video! This is 217 grams, more heavy and robust than it might seem, because it is so 3-dimensional. This was collected in February, 2005 according to the old Cal Graeber label with it, and was certainly purchased directly from mine owner Roland Reed. This was recently deaccessed from the extensive collection of Bob Reynolds, who cherished both minerals and fossils as he collected. Bob is a prolific author and has had several curating positions in museums.
