Item Description

Bismutite is a rare anhydrous bismuth carbonate. It's typically found as an alteration after another bismuth-containing species. This piece is an attractive pseudomorph / alteration of orange-yellow Bismutite after a preexisting crystal of Bismuthinite from the famous Alto Ligonha District in Mozambique. The most noteworthy qualities of the piece are the fact that it's still remarkably sharp and well-formed despite the alteration, and it's quite dense / hefty for the size. Very good quality and a superb example of this rare and incredibly elusive material. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
