Item Description

Here we have a beautiful example of the famous Luneburg Boracite crystals. Typically these crystals are found as loose single which weather out of the surrounding rock, but this piece is a significant MATRIX specimen of this well-known historic material. The piece features a wonderful, sharp, lustrous, gemmy and very well-formed pale silvery-grey color dodecahedral crystal of Boracite on Gypsum matrix from Lüneburger. The crystal measures a whopping 6.5 mm across, which is significant for the locality. Very hard to find on matrix, and very good quality for the size. An important and showy display piece of this hard to find material. Valued at $500. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#4557). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020.
