Item Description

3-dimensional, 3-sided, sculptural large botryoidal "grape" amethyst from recent finds in Indonesia. Juicy lavender translucent botryoids, to 4 mm, comprise this artistic piece. These caused a major stir at recent shows and are certainly beautiful, colorful and artistically fine specimens. Botryoidal amethyst is quite rare worldwide. These were first sold as agate or chalcedony. Analysis by Dr. George Rossman at Caltech concluded these should be labeled as amethyst, and not chalcedony or agate. An artistic and highly representative cabinet example. Edge attachments and a few bruised botryoids are certainly only a modest detraction. See the fine article in 2018 The Mineralogical Record issue, Vol. 49, No. 6, pp. 827-836. A showy and rich piece with several display views.
