Item Description

This is a really interesting and unusual Siderite specimen from the little known Leonie I Mine in Bavaria, Germany. I've never had a piece of this material to offer in the auctions prior to this one. Dozens if not hundreds of spherical / botryoidal groups of iron-coated Siderite are have formed a gorgeous three-dimensional group sitting atop a layer of massive Siderite matrix. The surface of the "balls" is oxidized to give the piece a lovely old time patina-esque appearance. If you collect carbonates, old German minerals, or odd morphology, do NOT miss out on this one. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#4057). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
