Item Description

From the world famous Herodsfoot Mine, which is best known for its superb and classic Bournonite specimens, here we have one of the great representations from this locality. I'm sure anybody familiar with Cornish minerals has seen the beautiful specimens of "cogwheel"-shaped Bournonite from this mine. This is a good example of said material, featuring a metallic, stepped crystal group of silvery-grey Bournonite with the classic "cogwheel" form measuring 5 mm across sitting on Quartz matrix. There are some spots on the piece where the Quartz has formed what appear to be hollow box-shaped "casts" after Fluorite(?), which is unusual for the locality. To read more about this locality, be sure to check out the stellar article in the Mineralogical Record, Volume 43, pgs 411-486.
