Brochantite on Calcite

Item Description

Brochantite is anomalous from Tsumeb and is very rare in combination with Calcite. On this piece we have rich emerald-green, acicular needles of translucent Brochantite covering the undulating matrix that is blanketed with starkly contrasting glassy, translucent Calcite rhombs. Brochantite occurs as vibrantly colored, richly populated, divergent sprays and tufts of slender crystals placed between and on the contrasting white Calcite crystals. For added interest and aesthetics, some of the Calcite rhombs enclose the Brochantite needles suggesting contemporaneous growth. This is a very atypical piece for Tsumeb given its rarity there and how nice looking this piece is. Ex. Jeffrey Wagner and former Shields and Frances Flynn collections.
