Item Description

Rare style for these famous cave calcite formations, from an older find and so somewhat unique even though these are common in general today....this is a tapered translucent honey colored cave Calcite with a distinctive curved growth from the karst caverns in Wenshan in Yunnan China. It shows off a very complex en echelon formation with stepped-growth on two parallel sides. The locale is famous for its unusual and unique stalactitic calcite formations but this is unusual even by those standards! This terminated Calcite came out over 20 years ago and measures an incredible 22.2 cm. It has a peculiar "faden-like" looking thread running the length of the crystal that is actually an internal hollow tube. There are 4 smaller intergrown cleaved Calcites at the base that all show hollow tubes on the cleaved faces that run the length of the crystals. The main dominate Calcite is in near pristine condition. If you are a Calcite or China mineral collector or just love mineral oddities this a great opportunity of get a truly one of a kind piece. Ex.
