Calcite (Burnett & Williams Coll.)

Item Description

A dramatic and sculptural Calcite specimen from a rare Indiana locality that produced little of this quality, and was worked by mineral collectors on weekends throughout the 70s and 80s as possible. However, few large crystals were found. This features a translucent 7 x 6 x 5 cm calcite that looks like a golfball, squished a little bit. It has such sharp edges, and nice luster! The piece is complete, the major crystal showing terminations all around, very 360 and 3-dimensional. It is nearly pristine, essentially mine run without lab cleaning (which would remove the few, very trivial, dings). The light sulfide inclusions within are probably needle-like marcasite. Formerly in the Lee Burnett Collection and Keith Williams personal collection (Keith is a retired dealer, known for his taste in aesthetic miniatures, USA classics, and Colorado material. He was one of the first to bring out Bulgarian material in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and a dealer for perhaps 50 years. ) A significant Indiana calcite, valued $2000-2500
