Item Description

This locality is known for only few species (mostly sulfides), but the iconic Calcite specimens are a favorite among collectors. Here we have a gorgeous and eye-catching display piece from this famous mine featuring several classic soft-golden colored scalenohedral Calcites with sharp faces and great form sitting atop a layer of micro crystallized Dolomite plus minor iridescent Chalcopyrite on host rock matrix. The Calcites are sharp, lustrous and gemmy in areas, and measure up to 3.4 cm. One of the Calcites is even doubly-terminated! A few crystals are contacted, but the piece is in very good shape and rather showy and eye-catching. These pieces are not nearly as common on the market as they were years ago, so don't miss out. Ex Dave Bergman Collection. Dave is a Colorado miner (formerly the foreman and primary person in charge of recovering specimens at the famous Sweet Home Mine near Alma, Colorado during the late 1970s) and the maternal grandfather of Brian Kosnar. See Dave's photo mining at the Sweet Home on page 58 of Peter Bancroft's book "Gem and Crystal Treasures". The piece was given to Dave as a gift by his son-in-law, Rich Kosnar in June of 1984 and the hand-written label from Kosnar accompanies the piece.
