Item Description

A fantastic large cabinet display specimen of the classic pink manganese-bearing Calcites from the N'Chwaning II Mine in South Africa. Dozens of very sharp, lustrous, translucent, "dogtooth" shaped crystals measuring up to 1.3 cm long form a lovely "mound" on host rock matrix. Most of the central crystals are undamaged, but there are a few contacts / cleaves here and there. Good quality overall and very eye-catching and showy. Priced in the inventory at $1,400. A great piece for any collector of Calcites or Kalahari minerals. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016). David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered.
