Item Description

Of the countless localities where Calcite is found in the Midwestern United States, the pieces from North Vernon, Indiana are certainly among the most distinctive. The unique habit combined with the beautiful particular color makes these pieces instantly recognizable. This small cabinet specimen features a fine quality, gemmy, beautiful rich golden colored, modified trigonal crystal with a lovely resinous luster measuring 3.1 cm across sitting on host rock matrix. No real damage, and very showy from a few angles. A really lovely example of this classic material, which is not nearly as easy to find on the market as it was 15 years ago. From the worldwide mineral collection of Albert Lewis Kidwell (January 1, 1919 - August 16, 2008). Al was a well-known mineral collector and research geologist with Carter Oil Company and later Exxon Oil Company in Houston, Texas. The phosphate species Kidwellite was named in his honor in 1974.
