Item Description

This locality is a bit obscure, but is known to Colorado collectors as it has produced some of the most interesting and easily identifiable Calcites from anywhere. This piece was collected in the mid 1980s when some of the best pieces were found. A group of sharp, layered / stacked, translucent, white to colorless rhombic Calcite crystals along with a few isolated single rhombs are sitting atop spherical orange colored Siderite on host rock matrix. The main Calcite group has an area of incomplete growth where I believe it was contacted and "re-healed" (re-crystallized), but it's not damaged as it's complete as far as I can see. The largest individual Calcite measures 2.9 cm at it longest dimension. Hard to find on the market today as collecting is now completely forbidden at Billy Creek. From the collection of Gary Weaver of Prescott, Arizona (1944-2019). Gary was an electrical engineer who worked for many years for Hughes Aircraft in California.
