Item Description

Most collectors are familiar with the beautiful pink Dolomite specimens from the Black Rock Quarry (Ben Hogan Quarry) in Arkansas, but this locality has produced some attractive Calcites, which are most often seen on Dolomite matrix. A few years ago, I was fortunate to pick up a small parcel of Calcites on Sphalerite from Black Rock, which collected by a local rock hound. This attractive thumbnail specimen features a few sharp, lustrous, translucent, pale golden color scalenohedra of Calcite measuring up to 8 mm sitting on a complex black crystal of Sphalerite which is studded by iridescent, golden sharp Chalcopyrite crystals. No major damage to speak of. It should be noted that it is not common to see Calcites ON Sphalerite from this locality. A great piece for a thumbnail collector, a Calcite collector, or a collector of specimens from Black Rock.
