Item Description

Here we have a cool and rarely seen Calcite specimen from this lesser-known quarry in the southwestern Boston suburbs. This cabinet sized display piece hosts several sharp, highly compressed / tabular "poker"-chip style Calcite crystals measuring up to 2.2 cm across sitting on granite matrix. The crystals have a very pale golden hue and decent internal translucency. The morphology is wonderful, as this particular style of Calcite is not commonly seen from any quarry in Massachusetts. A few crystals are contacted, so the piece is not 100% pristine, but the majority of them are in excellent condition. A small amount of pistachio green colored micro Epidote can be seen on the piece as well. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016). David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered.
