Carnelian (matched pair) (excellent color and quality)

Here we have a beautiful matched pair of Carnelian gems from Mozambique. Carnelian is categorized as a variety of Chalcedony, which is actually a variety of Quartz. So this is a subvariety of cryptocrystalline Quartz. Carnelian is beloved for its rich red and orange hues, and typically is not found in facet grade material. These stones have fiery orange color with a "jelly-like" appearance, not unlike Fire Opal. The stones very good quality compared to most Carnelians that I have seen due to the brighter than average color - there is no hint of brown in the stones - and excellent transparency/translucency. The gems have "Square Cushion" shapes, which are faceted on one side and flat on the other side. A superb matched set of this wonderful material that was mined about 20 years ago.
