Item Description

The rare copper, cobalt and nickel sulfide Carrollite is one of those species that has been known for years, but it was only in the last 20 years that the finest examples of the species have been found. For many years, it was incredibly difficult to find a crystal over a few mm, but when the big crystals started coming out in the late 1990s, it changed the game. The best of these piece represent the finest examples of the species ever seen. This thumbnail specimen is a good quality, sharp, lustrous, brilliant / splendent, bright silvery colored cuboctahedral crystal. The faces are well-formed and smooth, but there is some attached matrix, which actually gives the piece a bit of character. It's complete all around, and the few small contacts, are not terribly detracting.
