Cassiterite on Microcline feldspar (rare locale!)

This impressive, 3.2 cm Cassiterite is a real treasure by San Diego standards, where pegmatite occurences are exceedingly rare. The crystal is terminated and lustrous, with twinning visible on the termination and along the faces. Overall, the crystal is in good, though not perfect, condition, and is rather exceptional for the area. I have seen just a handful in collections over the years. Collected by mine owners, Ken and Dana Gochenour, and with their label preserved, this went to Bob as he heavily backed their efforts. It is amazing for the locality! This was recently deaccessed from the extensive collection of Bob Reynolds, who cherished both minerals and fossils as he collected. Bob is a prolific author and has had several curating positions in museums.
