Splendid, sharp, twinned cassiterite crystals are aesthetically set on the sculptural quartz-rich matrix covered with colorless quartz points on this exceptional small cabinet from this famous locale. The highly lustrous striated twins appear brown to black in normal light, but bright lighting or back lighting reveals striking areas of gemmy to translucent yellow to yellow-brown color. The impressive large twin in the 4.5 cm cluster is 2.8 cm and the isolated twin is 1.8 cm long. The famous Viloco Mine has produced the finest quality Bolivian cassiterite specimens and is the only Bolivian tin mine, that produced facet-grade cassiterite. Specimens of this outstanding quality came out in three small batches from 1980 to 1994. They were never common. Ex Ed David Collection. Ed was Science Advisor to President Nixon and assembled several world-class collections before he passed away in 2017.
