Celestine (excellent color and quality) with Calcite

This is a fantastic Celestine from the Ottawa Quarry (Rockwood Quarry) in Rockwood, Michigan featuring a group of sharp, lustrous, gemmy, robust crystals, free of matrix. Typically the Celestine specimens from various localities in Michigan are a softer grey-blue color, but this piece has a wonderful rich blue band running through the center, reminiscent of the best color crystals you'll find from Madagascar. The upper portions of the Celestine crystals are nearly white/colorless, which creates a really alluring bi-colored effect. Additionally, the Celestine crystals are studded with attractive contrasting soft golden colored rhombic crystals of Calcite on both sides measuring up to 1.7 cm across. No major damage on the display side, but the piece is forgivably contacted on the base where it was removed from the pocket wall. A gorgeous, showy and three-dimensional display piece of this seldom seen material. From the collection of Colin Manlove, valued around $3,500 retail.
