Item Description

VERY RARE and sculptural old-time pseudomorph combination from one of the copper-cobalt-uranium mines in the well-known Lubumbashi area of DR Congo. Sparkly, sugary, drusy chalcedony coats the striking pseudomorphs of banded chalcedony coating the malachite pseudomorphs after tabular azurite crystals. The scattered flecks of primary malachite on the sugary chalcedony add color and contrast. The broken crystals reveal colorful interiors of the banded chalcedony coating the tabular malachite pseudomorphs. Azurite is VERY RARE from here. MINDAT lists the species for the locale, but there are NO examples in the Photo Gallery for Lubumbashi. The broken crystals highlight the true rarity of this exceptional pseudomorph piece.
