Chalcopyrite

Item Description

This large, stalactite-like plate of matrix is completely covered on one side by lustrous, golden Chalcopyrites that range up to several millimeters in size. From the famous Sweetwater Mine in the Viburnum Trend, many of the Chalcopyrites are accented by an iridescent and magenta patina that adds even more to the appeal of this piece. Aesthetic, and highly representative of the recent production of this mine. Note that while the color palette is believed to be natural, the cleaning technique using acids to prepare the specimens after mining is generally thought to enhance the saturation of some of the colors against the golden tones (i did not clean this piece, so I must assume this is the case to be safe). Beautiful, and large.
