Item Description

The Chalcopyrite specimens from Chimney Rock are unusual for the species because they form in botryoidal groups, and resemble the old "blister copper" specimens from England. But these are so rare, almost never seen on the market - and usually stuck in the collections of incredibly devoted NJ-collectors for decades at a time as they hoard all the rocks NJ ever produces. The specimen is a beauty for the material from ANY location, USA or England - metallic luster is very good, and the rich patina really enhances the deep bronze color. Associated are white Calcites that fluoresce an nice orange color - a typical combination for Chiney Rock. Collected in 1991 by Dick Mayer, this is confirmed Chalcopyrite, not Pyrite or Marcasite. Formerly in the collection of William Butkowski, this is a quality, aesthetic miniature. Valued $750-1000
