Item Description

The Bandora Mine is a famous locality in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado, best known for producing some really impressive specimens of Chalcopyrite. This mine was intermittently active from 1884 to about 1950. This specimen is from finds in the early 1980s, when some of the best pieces of the material were found. This cabinet sized display specimen hosts, striking, sharp, interpenetrating Chalcopyrite crystals with a beautiful golden-brassy color measuring up to 6 mm sitting atop a matrix of thin Quartz crystals. The aesthetics of the piece and scarcity of the material make it a desirable display specimen from this historic mine. You don't see these specimens anymore, and they are certainly desirable classics today.
