Item Description

Pretty color-zoned green with violet accents fluorite cuboctahedrons with satin lustre faces, to 2.0 cm, are artistically scattered on a striking jumble of intergrown lustrous, jet-black schorl/foitite crystals from the Erongos. The large schorl/foitite crystal on the right side is 4.7 cm long. The schorls are probably composed of a myriad of typical small rod-like crystals of Foitite, a rare member of the Tourmaline Group. Correct identification is only possible by suitable analytical methods, but the guidance from the literature is that the species are mixed in this style, as described above. The central 4.4 cm upright schorl/foitite crystal has been reinforced at the crack. Purple fluorescence. Ex Shields Flynn Collection and illustrated on Page 84 of his 2018 self-published book, Minerals of Namibia - From the Collection of Shields and Frances Flynn. A dramatic, colorful and sculptural combination valued at $750-1000.
