"Copper wood" (rare New Mexico)

Item Description

Chalcocite and Djurleite, gray to black copper sulfides, have pseudomorphed a segmented section of fossilized wood from this extinct open pit New Mexico copper mine. Some of the Chalcocite and Djurleite has altered to green malachite. A major bonus on the bottom, is the coarse sandstone matrix peppered with both azurite and malachite! "These logs were the main source of ore for the open pit mine, and high silver values were found in some of the logs. Some logs were observed at over 1 meter wide and 6-10 meters long."
