Item Description

Striking large blue-gray sapphire crystals are dramatically set of the large gneiss matrix on this very sculptural specimen collected in the late-1990s by the Gochenour brothers at a remote California locality. The hexagonal tapered crystals are moderately lustrous. The embedded large crystal is 12.5 cm long and the stunning free-form raised crystal with the spit tail is 12.1 cm long. Both crystals have clean repairs, which is common for these pieces. Few enough were found, and they do not turn up often on market today! Ex Bob Reynolds Collection, a well-known fossil and mineral expert and Curator of the San Bernardino County Museum. He passed away in 2020. A fine large matrix California corundum, as specimens of this quality only come from recycled collections.
