Item Description

An old-time polished slice from a nodule of phosphates from the famous and extinct Little Green Monster Variscite Mine (Clay Canyon Mine). The green arrows on the sculptural slice point toward yellow-green Crandallite and elongated pods of gray Wardite (Type Locality) surrounding blue-gray Variscite, that dominate the piece. Millisite is a RARE phosphate, for which the mine is also the Type Locality. Undoubtedly an old piece, as arrows point toward Lehiite and Davisonite, which are discreditied species. Leehiite was named in 1930, but was found to be Crandallite and Davisonite was also named in 1930, but was found to be a mixture of Fluorapatite and Crandallite. See the 2010 Mineralogical Record article in Vol. 41, No. 4. Ex Chet Lemanski Collection and acquired in 1986. This slice is unusual, in that there is very little green Variscite present.
