Cronstedtite (rare) (ex Kay Robertson Collection)

Item Description

A fantastic old classic specimen of the rare iron phyllosilicate Cronstedtite featuring beautiful spherical groups of a greenish-black hue measuring up to 6 mm on partially oxidized matrix. Nearly all of the "balls" on the piece are damage free, and to have so many of them on one specimen is a big deal. These are historic specimens, and highly sought after as very few are ever available on the market. If you collect classics or rarities, you cannot pass up the chance to get your hands on this one, as they are impossible to find these days. Please note: This specimen is labeled as coming from Kisbanya in Hungary, but as mentioned on mindat.org "the Herja mine belongs to Baia Mare, but old specimens from Herja mine are usually labelled as Chiuzbaia (Kisbánya)." Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#4314). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
