Item Description

This excellent small cabinet piece is such a rich mixture of intergrown Duftite and Mimetite that it is hard to decide which species to feature first in the name. Granted, Mount Bonnie is famous for its great Mimetites, but we are so used to finding Duftite as coatings of super-fine microcrystals that we have to give the Duftite its due. The attractive green Duftites are associated with hundreds, if not thousands, of yellow, tabular, and hexagaonal Mimetites, mostly growing in rounded clusters across the entire matrix. Mount Bonnie and the great Tsumeb Mine are about the only locations you find well-crystallizerd Duftite, and even at Tsumeb it is rare. Just a fine association piece on several levels. Old 1970s or early 1980s label from the Collector, in Fallbrook CA. This was recently deaccessed from the extensive collection of Bob Reynolds, who cherished both minerals and fossils as he collected. Bob is a prolific author and has had several curating positions in museums.
