In the early 2000s, we started seeing some of the most attractive and iconic specimens of Prehnite and Epidote to hit the market from various localities in Mali. This piece is a gorgeous group of Epidote crystals which are robust, well-formed, large and really eye-catching. The largest individual crystal measures 4.7 cm long, and if you look closely you can see that many of them are actually doubly-terminated. The piece is crystallized on all side, no matrix, and is very close to what I would call a complete "floater", but there are a few tiny rough spots that keep it from being 100% pristine. It's still a dramatic, showy and choice example of this now hard to find material. Very little has come out of this area in at least the last 5 years or so, and if you missed out of them when they first showed up, do not pass up a chance to get your hands on an impressive cabinet display piece like this for your collection.
